MIX AND MINGLE
Take a look behind the scenes and find out about how Victoria approached the different strands of her work. Hosted by Victoria’s official biographer Jasper Rees, Mix & Mingle will feature her legendary BAFTA-winning TV producer, Geoff Posner in conversation, talking about Victoria’s TV work; Salford University’s Dr Pete Deakin discussing the ‘northern’ context of her comedy and Victoria’s long-time Musical Director David Firman who’ll explore Victoria’s song-writing and musical composition methods with comedian and musician Vikki Stone.
There’ll also be a chance to ask the panel your own questions.
Dr Pete Deakin is Lecturer in Film Studies at the University of Salford, School of Arts and Media
David Firman was Victoria’s arranger and Musical Director for her theatre show Good Fun, all three of Victoria’s BAFTA award-winning TV series’ Victoria Wood as Seen on TV, dinnerladies, Christmas with all the Trimmings, a TV special celebrating her BAFTA award, and the Victoria Wood special on Parkinson (BBC TV). For Victoria’s statue unveiling in Bury, David re-arranged Victoria’s Ballad of Barry and Freda (Let’s Do It) for the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band to perform.
Geoff Posner began working with Victoria in 1985, and went on to produce thirty-six of her programmes over 15 years including Victoria Wood as Seen on TV and Acorn Antiques, winning three BAFTAs and countless nominations along the way. Geoff has also directed and produced some of the UK’s best-loved comedy shows: Not the Nine O’Clock News, The Young Ones, Little Britain and many many more.
Jasper Rees has written the official biography of Victoria Wood which will be published this October by Trapeze. He’s a freelance journalist, writing arts features for the Daily Telegraph and the Sunday Times and has also reported on football for the Independent on Sunday.
Vikki Stone is a composer, comedian, actor and musician who The Scotsman described as “the bastard love child of Victoria Wood and Tim Minchin.” She’s made numerous appearances on TV and radio as well as performing her brilliant brand of stand-up and songs in shows up and down the country.
